Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had another great week in Pegasus class!

As writers, we have drawn our own setting from Traction Man choosing our own special mission: Traction Man swimming into the bath, sink or diving into the laundry hamper. We used our drawings to describe our own settings using noun phrases and prepositions.

As mathematicians, we have been learning how to subtract numbers on a number line up to 50 crossing tens and using partitioning to subtract numbers efficiently.

In History, we have been exploring the engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. We had a go at building our own Thames Tunnel structures using wooden blocks and blue tissue paper. The children were very creative in their choice of designs and arranging their blocks to create strong structures. We drew our final designs on A3 paper and labelled the diagrams with the choice of materials.

In Art, we sketched Clifton Suspension Bridge and used watercolours to paint our drawings. We also learnt about the Industrial Revolution and how Brunel transformed transportation in Britain. We used mapping to plot the Great Western Railways routes, including Oxford to London and acted out the roles of passengers on a steam train.

The children were very engaged constructing their own bridges, railways and ships using the Brunel grid club website - here is the link for your child to use at home: https://gridclub.com/activities/brunels-britain

Next week:

Next week in English, we will be planning a diary entry based on the perspective of a toy that Traction Man is saving. They will be choosing their own character, using exclamatory sentences for effect and contractions.

Home-learning:

Maths homework is due in on Monday. We will mark our homework on that day. Spellings are also due on that day for those that have finished Read, Write, Inc. We will not be testing children on their spellings. It is just for children to practise their spellings at home.
