Dear Parents,

This week in Delphinus, the children have been busy consolidating their understanding of numbers to 20. Using a variety of number lines, they practised counting forwards from 0 to 20 and counting backwards from right to left. Number lines provided a great opportunity to reinforce counting from zero, something children don’t always do when counting physical objects. They also worked on sequencing numbers, finding missing numbers on number lines, and creating their own.

In Maths, the children continued to explore teen numbers through fast-paced, hands-on games. They practised making numbers using ten frames and writing matching number sentences, for example 10 + 2 = 12, while understanding that 12 is made of 1 ten and 2 ones. This intensive practice is really strengthening their confidence and fluency.

Our wider curriculum took an exciting turn with an alien theme this week. In art, the children drew their own aliens and experimented with watercolours, learning how to control the amount of water on their brush to create smooth lines. They also explored colour mixing to create different shades. The alien theme continued into Curious Quest, where the children created new friends for Bob, The Man in the Moon (Simon Bartram), designed the Quangle Wangle’s Hat (Edward Lear), and reflected on what Beegu (Alexis Deacon) might have learned during his time on Earth. They also used their imaginations to think about what Professor Clunk might look like.

We are incredibly proud of the children’s writing. During a recent meeting where teachers from other schools shared English books, colleagues commented on the high quality of Delphinus children’s independent writing and how much they are producing each day. A huge well done to the class! Please continue to support your child with daily practice at home—it really does make a difference. If your child is feeling reluctant, or if you would like advice or support, please don’t hesitate to ask.

In music, the children are working hard on their Hansel and Gretel songs and are sounding increasingly harmonious. You can see what they have been practising by following the links, including A Man Stood in the Forest.

Our space topic was delayed this week but will resume next week—we’re looking forward to launching back into it!

Parent Forum
We're looking forward to welcoming parents for our Parent Forum this Tuesday at 6pm. We'll be talking about our Approach to Behaviour, Staff Growth and the HSA. We look forward to seeing you then.
Parking and Travelling to School
We'd like to remind parents to consider the impact of their parking at pick up and drop off. Concerns have been raised at the dangerous behaviour that some drivers have shown; parking on pavements without space to pass, blocking driveways and parking or stopping on the yellow zig-zags, all of which are not allowed. Additionally, we would ask parents with children on bikes to walk them down to the bottom of the driveway before mounting, we've seen a number of near misses with cars turning on the residents road.
