Delphinus - Reflect and Review
Dear Parents
In handwriting, all children have now moved to working in smaller booklets which is helping them to reduce the size of their writing. With the emphasis on capital letters this term, the children are really enjoying learning when we should use them and have enthusiastically competed in teams to see who can remember the most. You might want to test them at home? Children have worked on poster ideas and idyllic forest drawings in response to this week’s Drawing Club book, The Last Wolf – a reimagining of the Little Red Riding Hood story. With their accompanying sentences they are working hard to start writing next to the margin, to write on the lines and to write smaller. All of these small steps for adults are huge ones for children, and the more children can practise at home the better.
In history the children have heard about the injuries the soldiers may have suffered during the Crimean War and how Florence Nightingale transformed the care given to patients. They have done sorting activities to compare nursing then and now, and this has been made real with the help of our special guest who has answered their questions and given them an opportunity to listen to their own heart beats with a stethoscope.
Next week
The big focus will be on the Nativity. Children have been given their parts and are learning how to move on and off the stage and practise their lines and actions, as well as sing the songs. With such a busy schedule we are always very grateful for all the practice you can give the children at home – it makes a big difference. If you were able to give time to this in your busy schedules that would be fantastic! Thank you!
If you are not sure of when your child’s Thought of the Day is please ask. Next week it is the turn of: Hope, Daisy, Isla, Solly and Felix.
