Delphinus - Reflect and Review

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!

This week in Maths the children have been reviewing 2D shapes and learning about the related 3D shapes. They have had fun creating their own block creatures or worlds and calculating how many and which types of shapes they have used. If you have sets of blocks at home and/or you are out and about, please encourage your children to identify the 3D shapes they are using and what they can spot in the world around them. From Wednesday phonics restarted with most children being in new groups. If you would like any tips on how to support your
children at home with phonics to bring them on quicker please do ask me. In Drawing Club – to coincide with the restart of phonics – we revisited Bears Don’t Read. In handwriting we have looked at the Ladder Letter family (l t i u y j) and the One-armed Robot Letter family (r
b n h m k b). In Art we have stated investigating what sculpture is and the children have worked in small groups on their assemblages and their ‘exhibits’ have been visited by other class members who had practised the questions they were going to ask. They have moved on to making their own sculptures with a focus on colour and shape. In PE this week they have started Dance and Dodgeball.

Coming up
Children will be continuing with their sculpture work and also looking at materials and the properties of liquids and solids:- what would be the best material to mend a broken umbrella and why; why does a puddle get smaller; when can a solid become a liquid. We will also be beginning Curious Quests (the next step after Drawing Club) which will give the
children opportunities to go deeper into story, poetry and make-believe.

Please remember to do the Maths homework ready to hand in on Monday - look at the sticker on the homework books if you need a reminder of which weeks are due in.

PE stays on Mondays and Fridays – children to come to school in their PE kits. Outdoor Learning dates are: 22nd January and 5th February

Other information
Weather permitting, we will be starting to use the school field again so please ensure that children come with indoor shoes. There are several students who do not currently seem to have them and when it is muddy, children won’t be allowed on the field if they do not have changes of shoes.
