Delphinus - Reflect and Review

Dear Delphinus Families,

It has been a shorter week with the Bank Holiday on Monday – we hope you had a lovey extra lie-in! We still managed to cover an amazing amount of learning! You will have noticed a different teacher today - Jessica! Molly is on a training week and so next week will also have a different teacher – Sarah – on Monday and Tuesday, with Jessica back for Wednesday and Friday. Mrs C is still here on Thursday!

Maths this week was all about fractions as we looked at halves of quantities and shapes. We practiced left and right again and also learned about above and below. It is surprising how many children find position really tricky so it would be helpful if you practice at home. Whilst many children do know their left from their right, deciding whether an object is to the left or right, or above or below is a different skill altogether!

Maths homework is Week 13 and is due in on Monday!

The Faithful Friends came across a Bag Of Joy in Curious Quest whilst writing all about ‘Alan’s Big Scary Teeth’ by Jarvis. There is a lovely CBeebies Bedtime version read by Josh Widdecombe here:

Our Word Bathing (vocabulary practice!) has included Terrifying  Ablutions Slinking Unwind Remove  Ashamed Sobbing and Gleeful! We love seeing the children put actions to these words and this week, ask your child which other animal they gave Big Scary Teeth to. We had some hilarious ideas – can you imagine a bunny with fangs?!!

Our wider curriculum this week has been all about the music! You might have seen the Instagram post! We listened to different pieces from Carnival of the Animals and also named and identified different instruments in the orchestra.

We are practising cricket skills in PE on Fridays and have Netball taught by the Sports Coach on Mondays. Please make sure your child comes in PE kit on those days, especially as the weather is getting warmer and the children are getting sweatier!

Lost Property! We have a HUGE amount of UN-NAMED hoodies and sweatshirts in our box outside the classroom door. Please pop in when you drop your child off one morning next week to have a sift through and claim some!

Next week:

Even with the different teachers, and SATS week for Aquila Class, we are still continuing at pace! Maths is consolidating halves and quarters, with some ordinal numbers thrown in for good measure on Thursday with Mrs C! Curious Quest encounters The Hovering Helicopter while we read and write about My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes by Eve Sutton and Lynley Dodd (from Hairy Maclary fame!)

Zoolab visit will go ahead on Thursday – thank you. Although we have received many more payments, we are still having to fund quite a proportion so, if you can, please make a contribution, even if it is not the full amount, it will be gratefully appreciated.

Dates for the diary:

Thursday Outdoor Learning:  21st May remember long sleeved tops and trousers. If the weather on that day is warm, children do have time to change into their outdoor kit so can bring it with them.
