Cygnus - Reflect and Review
Dear Reception families
In our last week of our Long Ago topic this term we learned all about the dinosaurs.
As you can imagine, this was an extremely popular week!
The children have been fossil hunters this week. They have dug for dinosaur bones in the sandpit and tried a mini palaeontology dig for dinosaur bones in the class. They also dug out some baby dinosaurs from dinosaur eggs after we found a nest in the reception garden!
We have made dinosaur footprints and helped the dinosaurs wade through a gloopy dinosaur swamp!
We have used our fossil hunter role play area to look at fossils under the microscope and using magnifying glasses and think about how they are formed.
In Maths we learnt about doubles. The children made a doubles stew:
Let’s make a double stew, 1+1 makes 2.
We need more, 2+2 makes 4.
Give it a big mix, 3+3 makes 6.
This is smelling great, 4+4 makes 8.
Let’s stir it again, 5+5 makers 10!
We made our own doubles too and the children learnt that double numbers are equal or the same.
This week our Drawing Club book was ‘Are the dinosars dead dad? by Julie Middleton.
We learnt the names of some of the dinosaurs and what the names mean. The children chose their favourite dinosaur to draw for the drawing club.
Vocabulary this week: extinct, dead, museum, sharp, long, chase, living, listen.
Big 3 and Me this week focused on Being ready. The children learned the British sign language signs for calm, ready and bored. The Big 3 and Me challenge this week was to try to show we are ready to learn with eyes looking and body alert.
On Thursday our visiting associate teacher, Noreen hosted an Eid party for the children. We learnt all about the celebration and the children enjoyed Eid treats (Eidi).
It was Noreen’s last day with us and the children made her a card.
It was great to see many of you at the mother’s day tea last week. Thank you for attending. Dad’s, please note that a Father’s day forest school date will be shared next term.

Notices:
The children are now all reading books in phonics and will be bringing new books home every few days. Please make sure they always have their reading books in their books bags and bring the bags to school every day. The day we change books will change depending on the timetable.
Children need a pair of indoor shoes/plimsoles to change into to come into the classroom and a spare set of clothes, including pants and socks, for any accidents. These should be brought to school every day please.
Please make sure the children have a waterproof coat every day. We have outdoor play as often as possible and we need to be ready for changes in the weather. Now that the weather is more Spring-like please make sure the children have a sunhat/cap at school to wear if it is a sunny day.
If your child is going home with someone else, please make sure you email the school office to advise us of the change: office@nhps.org.uk
Best wishes
