Cygnus - Reflect and Review

Dear Reception families

It has been a really fun end to the term.

This week we talked again about the Christmas story. The Nativity had prepared us to consider what was important about the story and the children recalled the details really well.

We started the week thinking about giving and saying thank you.

The children had to choose a gift for a new baby and wrap it. We asked them what it felt like to give someone a gift and what it felt like to receive one. The children chose a classmate to write a card to.

We retold the Christmas story together through role play, story and craft.

On Tuesday, after we retold the story of the shepherds being visited by the angels, we made our own angels.

On Wednesday we told the story of the wise men. The children looked at real gold, frankincense and myrrh and we talked about why the wise men chose those presents for Jesus. We thought about what gift we might bring baby Jesus. We were inspired by Van Gogh to create some starry night skies of our own with foil painting. The children were particularly keen on this art work.

Everyone really enjoyed the Spirit week activities. Thank you all for participating with enthusiasm.  The children have loved the chance to dress up. To add to our school Polar Express film afternoon, we had mini movie afternoons in our class; we watched the Snowman and the Snowman and the Snowdog.

We would like to say a big thank you for the thoughtful gifts you gave the Reception team. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. It is much appreciated.

The children have worked hard this year and deserve a well earned rest over the Christmas holiday. We wish you all a peaceful break and look forward to seeing you next term.

Do keep practicing the sounds and word building as often as you can.

This week we have sent home QR code links for sounds the children need to practice. Please do have a look and practice over the holidays and do read with your children over the holidays too.

HSA Christmas Bazaar

We’d like to thank the HSA committee for all their hard work this year. The Christmas Bazaar was roaring success and we appreciate how much work it takes to plan and run an event like that. Their hard work and all of your generosity has allowed us to purchase new furniture for Hestia space.

We wish you all a wonderful Christmas holiday, filled with good health, rest, and beautiful memories.

Thank you for your continued support throughout the term.
