Cygnus - Reflect and Review

Dear Reception families

We had our first RE lesson this week. The children were introduced to Bertie owl. Bertie will be helping us explore the concepts around faith and religion. Our first lesson addressed the idea of family and community and which people are special to us. We talked about what activities families do together. The children drew a picture of their special person or people and described how they are special to them.

We read ‘The Velveteen Rabbit’ in Drawing club. The story, from 1921, is about a toy rabbit that becomes real. The children were asked to think about which toy they would like to become real. Our vocabulary included: kind, together, friend, love, create, join and real.

Mathematics classes focused on composition of numbers this week. The children had to decide which toy had more and which one had fewer. They were good at spotting the difference.

The children have now learned all of the alphabet letter sounds! Hooray!

This week we learned the sounds: x and z

Please practice the sounds with the children at home.

Do try some practice word building at home. Suggestions are in your bookbags.

In art we transformed natural objects with paint to make something different and unique.

After practicing our songs together we joined the rest of the school for the harvest festival service at St. Peter and St Paul church. Rev. Claire spoke about treating the farmers who grow the food we eat fairly. The children did really well walking with their Year 6 partner to and from the church.

Forest school picked up on our Hansel and Gretel theme from last week and they made potions together. This was Mrs Brett’s last forest school session.

The children will be continuing to have outdoor learning after half term in the Friday afternoon slots every 2 weeks.

Next week we will be having our RE week with Bertie owl. We are thinking about what makes people special.

Our personal, social and emotional development focus will be self regulation.

Wednesday next week is the last day of school before half term and the day of our first class trip.

Notices:

Please ensure that any emails to inform the school of changes to pick up arrangements for the children go to the school office: office@nhps.org.uk and not the Early Years email account. Thank you.

Please make sure the children have a waterproof coat every day. We have outdoor play as often as possible and we need to be ready for changes in the weather.

Children also need a pair of indoor shoes/plimsoles to change into to come into the classroom and a spare set of clothes, including pants and socks, for any accidents.

Wishing you all a great weekend.

Best wishes

The Reception Team
