Cygnus - Reflect and Review

Dear Reception families

In preparation for our Zoolab visit this week we learned about zoos. We asked the big question: What are zoos for? We brought our learning about endangered animals from last week into our discussion. We watched Mr Benn the Zookeeper to help us think about hope animals are kept in zoos. Vocabulary this week:  liberate, habitat, protect, release, capture, tearful, shelter, forlorn.

The children have been learning about number lines and playing track games this week. They were really good at placing the numbers on the line and explaining why they should be in those positions. They considered more and less than and demonstrated that their ordinality and cardinality skills are now really confident to 10.

This week we have had some class changes due to the SATS examinations. We hope the Year 6 children have a well deserved rest this weekend. We have had to adapt phonics teaching and so new books may arrive next week.

Big 3 and Me this week focused on caring about caring about difference. The children learned the British sign language signs for proud, sad and scared. The Big 3 and Me challenge this week was to celebrate each other's differences.

Some of our butterflies have hatched! The children are very excited. We will keep them for a few more days and then release them.

On Thursday we had our class visit to St. Lawrence’s church where Reverend Claire talked about the story of Easter with us.

Sadly our Zoolab visit was cancelled at the last minute due to illness of the staff member bringing the animals. We have been reassured that they will reschedule the visit for us.

Notices:

The children are now all reading books in phonics and will be bringing new books home every week. Please make sure they always have their reading books in their books bags and bring the bags to school every day. The day we change books will change depending on the timetable.

Children need a pair of indoor shoes/plimsoles to change into to come into the classroom and a spare set of clothes, including pants and socks, for any accidents. These should be brought to school every day please.

Please make sure the children have a waterproof coat every day. We have outdoor play as often as possible and we need to be ready for changes in the weather. Please make sure the children have a sunhat/cap at school to wear if it is a sunny day and their own sunscreen to use at school.

If your child is going home with someone else, please make sure you email the school office to advise us of the change: office@nhps.org.uk

Best wishes
