Corvus and Draco - Reflect and Review
Dear Parents,
In English, Corvus have continued on our Shackleton journey. We edited and created a final version of our letters to family members. We used an image of the Endurance entering pack ice as stimulation for creating poems using descriptive words and phrases. Alternatively, in Draco, we have written an application letter in the role of Frank Hurley. We have edited our letters and will publish and present these letters to a member of staff who will be in the role of Ernest Shackleton (our target audience), next week.
In Maths, Corvus have been consolidating knowledge of the grid method to multiply 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers, before starting to explore dividing 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. Children in Draco have been busy mathematicians looking at dividing 2-digit numbers by a 1-digit number and 3-digit numbers by a 1 digit number.
In History, we have concluded our Antarctic expedition, sadly giving up our roles as explorers to assume the mantle of historians. We have been collecting and evaluating evidence to create an argument looking at whether Shackleton’s journey can be considered ‘pointless’.
Next week
As writers, Corvus will be learning how to use adverbs effectively. As Mathematicians, Corvus will be consolidating our knowledge of the multiplication and division of 2 digit numbers and 1 digit numbers. Corvus, in Computing, will start to look at the internet - what it is, how it works and how we can use it safely. In Draco, we will be looking at motivational speeches and re-reading a section from Shackleton’s Journey 21 to 28 (End of ‘Winter Months) in order to discuss how the crew might have been feeling and the importance of keeping up morale. In Maths, we will look at area and perimeter.
We have updated our book banded books so all children should be clear on what band they are in. Please do encourage them to read their book and ask them questions about it.
