Corvus and Draco - Reflect and Review
Dear Parents, It has been lovely to have the class back together after a good break!
In English, we have started to explore our new text - Shackleton’s Journey, by William Grill. We analysed the front cover, predicting what the book would be about and then planned and wrote a recount of a journey of our own choice.
In Maths, Corvus have been consolidating our knowledge of the 4 and 8 times tables and looking at the relationships between them and the 2 times table. Draco have been reminding themselves of all of their amazing maths learning from before Christmas!
In Corvus, following our study of Antarctica from a geographical perspective last term, we are now learning about the continent’s history, with a focus on the early explorations of the continent. We identified the key milestones and people involved and have started to look in more detail about Shackleton’s attempt to cross from one side of the continent to the other. We even became members of his crew, thinking about how we could prepare for the adventure physically, mentally and in the items we would take with us. Draco have begun similar learning but also learned how computer systems work and how information on the internet gets from where it is stored to our devices!
Next week
As writers, we will be researching Shackleton’s crew and writing a letter in role to their families. As Mathematicians, we will be revising some of the content covered earlier in the year and addressing misconceptions. As Historians, we will continue our adventure aboard the Endurance and identify the key moments of Shackleton’s epic escape from the clutches of the Antarctic ice.
Home Learning
We will have Maths homework due on Monday so please ensure that the students bring in their books. It has been lovely to hear so many children talk about logging into Times Table Rock Stars at home - it definitely helps so please do encourage them to continue doing so!
Other information
Weather permitting, we will be starting to use the school field again so please ensure that children come with indoor shoes. There are several students who do not currently seem to have them and when it is muddy, children won’t be allowed on the field if they do not have changes of shoes.
