Columba and Aquila - Reflect and Review

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had another focused and productive week across the curriculum.

In English, we wrote diary entries and created fantastic comic strips inspired by Macbeth by William Shakespeare, focusing on character voice, emotions and the use of expressive language.

As mathematicians, Columba focused on regular and irregular polygons and began adding decimals. Aquila focused on problem solving.

In science, we evaluated our burglar alarms and presented our designs, explaining how they worked using scientific vocabulary. The children showed great ideas and creativity throughout.

In PSHE, we focused on community and inclusion, discussing how we can support people with different needs and help everyone feel included.

Next Week

Year 6 National Assessment Week will take place from Monday 11th to Thursday 14th May. We are very proud of Aquila class for their hard work and preparation—they should feel confident, stay calm and simply do their best. Remember that they are invited to breakfast early - see MCAS message.

In English, Columba will focus on direct and reported speech, continuing to draw inspiration from Macbeth.

In Maths, Columba will begin work on 3D shapes and continue adding and subtracting decimals.

In topic, we will explore Elizabethan times, and in art, both classes will draw a portrait of Queen Elizabeth I.

Home Learning

Please continue to encourage your child to read daily and practise their spellings regularly, as short and consistent practice makes a real difference to confidence, fluency and overall progress.

Maths Practice Journals are due on Monday (Columba: Week 12 and Week 1 – Summer Term) and will be checked in class. If your child does not have a summer term label in their homework book, please ask.

Columba Spelling Challenge: Children are encouraged to practise their spelling words and be ready to show their teacher—they can earn raffle tickets towards a big prize for their effort and progress.
