Columba and Aquila - Reflect and Review

Dear Parents,

What an amazing week!

Columba were especially excited about their classroom’s brand-new flooring and freshly painted walls — it looks fantastic!

As readers, we began drawing inspiration from the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio, exploring how settings and characters are introduced, inferring meaning, and researching the syndrome featured in the story.

As mathematicians, Columba focused on prime and square numbers, while Aquila worked on equivalent fractions.

As scientists, we started exploring light, investigating how it travels and discovering that shadows are formed when light is blocked by an object.

Next Week

In English, we will focus on using cohesive and formal language as we plan our own documentary scripts about “A Day at North Hinksey.”

In Maths, Columba will explore cube numbers and practise multiplying by 10, 100, and 1,000, while Aquila will focus on adding and subtracting fractions.

In Science, we will continue our work on light, learning about reflection and exploring how periscopes use mirrors to change the direction of light.

Children in Year 4 to 6 will be visiting the Commonwealth War Graves on Tuesday for Remembrance Day. Parents are welcome to join us on the walk down, leaving around 10.15am.

Home Learning

Please remember to return the Maths Practice Journals on Monday.

Columba class should continue to practise spellings from the Years 3–4 and Years 5–6-word lists. All children are encouraged to revisit the words in their spelling logbooks regularly throughout the week.

On Saturday, from 10am-12pm, it’s our Open Day! We hope to see as many of you as possible — it’s a wonderful opportunity to share and celebrate all the amazing things we do here at North Hinksey.
