Columba and Aquila - Reflect and Review
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a week full of purposeful learning across the curriculum.
In English, as writers we planned and drafted descriptive narratives, focusing on ambitious vocabulary, clear paragraph structure and dialogue, drawing inspiration from Macbeth by William Shakespeare.
As mathematicians, Columba calculated angles on a straight line and focused on lengths and angles in shapes, including regular and irregular polygons. Aquila explored position and direction, reading and plotting points in all four quadrants.
As scientists, we built our burglar alarms, showing great creativity and problem-solving skills, and tested whether they worked effectively.
In PSHE, we discussed diversity within our community and how we can celebrate it, linking this to our school values of kindness and gentleness.
Next Week
In English, we will write a diary entry and create comic strips inspired by Macbeth, focusing on character voice, emotions and the use of expressive language.
In Maths, Columba will continue focusing on regular and irregular polygons and begin adding and subtracting decimals. Aquila will focus on problem solving.
In science, we will evaluate our burglar alarms and present our designs, explaining how they work using scientific vocabulary.
Home Learning
Please continue to encourage your child to read daily and practise their spellings regularly, as this supports confidence and fluency across all areas of learning.
Columba Spelling Challenge: Children are encouraged to practise their spelling words at home and be ready to show their teacher—they can earn raffle tickets towards a big prize for their effort and progress.
Maths Practice Journals will be checked on Tuesday following the bank holiday. Thank you for your continued support.
Notes
We have a lot of unnamed uniform in school at the moment, please ensure that your child's uniform is all named so that it can make its way back to you.
